Exploring medicine at Flinders

16 September 2020

Former OzTREKKer Tracey Davison has found her home away from home in the Flinders medicine program. She always wanted a career that would help people, and medicine seemed like a good way to achieve that goal.

Tracey also valued the diversity of medicine, given that there are a variety of areas in which to practice. Do you like a quickly changing environment? Emergency medicine could be for you! Or maybe you thrive in situations that require careful concentration and good dexterity, so surgery is a good fit.

Studying in Australia was a familiar idea for Tracey, as she already had a friend studying medicine in Queensland. When Tracey heard how positive her friend’s experience was, she thought that making the leap across the Pacific could suit her as well. A smaller university, Flinders Medical School is perfectly located inside a hospital, so the skills you learn in class are quickly applied to real-life situations.

Tracey also has plenty to do and see during her downtime. From beaches to Mount Lofty, Adelaide is a welcoming environment for international students, with Flinders International Student Services arranging many activities.

Rural placements only expand the opportunity to combine learning and adventure.  “You get to study at the same time, but you also get to explore!”
