Overview
The University of Notre Dame Australia offers a comprehensive Master of Physiotherapy degree at their Fremantle campus in Western Australia.
With a large number of degrees accredited by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership and Exercise Sports Science Australia, the university’s School of Health Sciences is proud to produce highly skilled graduates with a strong service ethos. Notre Dame’s degrees reflect a diverse range of disciplines such as education, early intervention, diagnostics, treatment, and rehabilitation.
A special feature of the university’s health sciences programs are the practicum and internship experiences that are a compulsory requirement of your studies. Your internship will take place in public and private hospitals, medical practice centres, community health centres, pathology laboratories, health promotion agencies, schools, and voluntary service agencies. These experiences will maximize your employment prospects and guide your career aspirations prior to graduation.
Program
Notre Dame’s Master of Physiotherapy is a 2-year full-time program that prepares you to become an effective, culturally appropriate practitioner focusing on the physiotherapist-client relationship. This program includes key physiotherapy-specific courses and clinical placement experiences, meaning you are work-ready upon completion of the degree. There is a strong focus on ethical and professional communication and behaviours as well as on developing high-level communication skills with clients and as part of collaborative multidisciplinary practice.
As a physiotherapy student, you’ll develop clinical assessment and intervention skills in laboratories and simulated learning environments, and have exposure to clients in physiotherapy practices, hospitals or community health settings, and urban and rural locations.
The program also strongly focuses on evidence-based and reflective practice ensuring graduates will be well prepared to meet the challenge of current and future health provision across the many clinical and non-clinical areas in which physiotherapists are employed.
Clinical Placements
In the Master of Physiotherapy program, you’ll explore every avenue of physiotherapy practice in your on-campus studies and approximately 750 hours of clinical practice (practicum). You’ll complete a variety of formal practicum experiences within the clinical setting as a part of the program, and learn from academics who are industry leaders, so you can gain real professional experience and make valuable contacts with potential employers.
