Overview
The School of Nursing and Midwifery at Deakin University is one of the largest in Australia and is committed to providing excellence in its courses through an emphasis on current trends and evidence-based practice in nursing. You will benefit from the cutting-edge facilities and equipment in purpose-built Clinical Simulation Centres.
Program
Early in your first year you will undertake clinical placement and during the remainder of the course can develop clinical skills and knowledge across a range of health care environments in a variety of clinical practice locations. Under the supervision of registered nurses, you will be part of multidisciplinary health care teams in acute/sub-acute care, medical and surgical care, aged care, rehabilitation, paediatrics, community nursing and mental health nursing.
Clinical Practice
Clinical placements are conducted throughout your course beginning in Trimester 1 of your first year. This early exposure to the clinical environment gives you extensive opportunities to develop clinical skills under the supervision of registered nurses and enables you to experience being part of a multidisciplinary health care team. You will gain clinical experience in a variety of settings including acute/sub-acute care, medical and surgical care, aged care, rehabilitation, community nursing and mental health nursing. These may be undertaken in hospitals and community health care centres in metropolitan, rural and regional areas.
*Campus availability varies per trimester. This means that a course offered in Trimester 1 may not be offered in the same location for Trimester 2 or 3.
