Program
In La Trobe’s Master of Teaching program, you’ll learn the most up-to-date skills for the modern classroom. You’ll prepare for classroom teaching with extensive in-school experience and guidance from highly experienced and dedicated teaching academics.
With extensive real-world teaching experience, you’ll learn how to manage classrooms, design class plans, guide students, and create a safe and engaging learning space for your students.
La Trobe focuses on practice-based learning, and teacher education students learn about creating relationships from day one. You’ll be embedded in your community from your first semester and will be mentored by community leaders. You’ll understand how to connect with every student as an individual and develop meaningful relationships with students, parents, and the wider school community.
Professional Placements (Work-based Learning)
During this course, you will have the opportunity to participate in a work-based learning (WBL) placements designed to allow you to practice newly acquired skills, behaviours, and knowledge while integrating theory with practice. The placements will immerse you in professional work culture, enabling you to develop and further enhance your skills. WBL provides you with the opportunity to gain valuable industry experience at one or more of our local, interstate, or international industry partners or agencies.

You must have a bachelor’s degree. No minimum GPA has been listed.
Primary – Applicants must have a completed bachelor’s degree with at least one year of full-time equivalent study, at any year level, relevant to one or more areas of the primary school curriculum:
Arts (dance, drama, music, media arts, or visual arts)
English (including literature studies or professional writing)
Health (including nursing, nutrition, medicine, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, podiatry, or other allied health disciplines)
Humanities and social sciences (history, geography, legal studies, politics, economics, or business)
Mathematics
Physical education
Science (including biology, chemistry, earth science, physics, health sciences, psychological science, or engineering)
Technologies (including design and technologies or digital technologies)
Secondary – Applicants must have a completed bachelor’s degree with a major study in at least one of the following areas, and preferably a minor study in a second area:
Arts (drama, visual arts, or media)
Business management (VIC)/business studies (NSW)
Business and economics
English
Health and physical education
Humanities and social sciences (HASS)
Languages other than English (LOTE)
Mathematics
Outdoor education
Psychology
Science (biology, chemistry or physics)
