Overview
As a University of Newcastle law student, you will study at the university’s $95-million NeW Space facility right in downtown Newcastle. Through its first-class facilities, as well as its innovative, integrated approach to legal education, the Newcastle Law School ensures that you will gain all the necessary theory, skills and experience for a career in legal practice.
Newcastle Law School is the only law school in Australia that runs its own legal centre and provides students with their required practical legal training and much of their required supervised clinical legal experience. You will work on real cases under the supervision of the law school’s solicitors and take part in public interest clinics in social justice and environmental law through the legal centre.
Program
The UON Bachelor of Laws degree is offered as a combined program, which means you undertake your degree in conjunction with another degree and receive two qualifications in only five years of study. Newcastle Law School runs a distinctive Practice Program that integrates the academic study of law with hands-on clinical experience and practical training. You will work with real clients under the supervision of legal practitioners at the University of Newcastle Legal Centre.
Combined degrees include
- Arts/laws
- Business/laws
- Commerce/laws
- Communication/laws
- Science/laws
- Social science/laws
Law on the Beach
Each summer Newcastle law students work with social work students at the annual Law on the Beach clinics. Supervised by a lawyer from the Newcastle Legal Centre, you will work on real cases and provide legal advice to community members at the drop-in clinic at Newcastle Beach.
