University of Newcastle's student accommodation milestone
The University of Newcastle‘s capacity to accommodate students will soon almost double, with the construction of four student apartment blocks reaching an important milestone on July 18, 2014.
A ceremonial trowelling celebrated the final concrete pour on the last of the four buildings’ roofs. In keeping with construction industry tradition, trees were placed on top of the development, with four balloons signifying each of the new buildings, also released.
The accommodation project aims to address the shortage of contemporary, safe and affordable student housing in the Hunter region, while providing an enhanced student experience with the University of Newcastle.
Due for completion later this year, the development is expected to be open for occupancy in February 2015.
The four multi-level residences will boast 336 self-catered apartments and almost 800 beds, and is the largest accommodation build to be undertaken by the University of Newcastle since the construction of Evatt House in 1972.
