Bond University Physiotherapy Student Participates in Iconic Gold Coast Marathon
What do OzTREKK students do while studying in Australia?
Well, Bond Doctor of Physiotherapy student (and former OzTREKKer), Nicholas Reimer, got a taste of the scenic Gold Coast course as he completed his first full marathon.
The Gold Coast Marathon celebrated its 45th year (July 5 & 6, 2025) with a strong contingent of Bond University Bull Sharks taking to the start line at Broadwater Parklands.
Prior to his race, Nicholas stated, “I have done some half-marathons previously with my Canadian university track and field team, but my main distances were the one thousand metres and the fifteen-hundred metres.”
He also mentioned that he’d been training hard over the past six months with a goal to run under 2:45.
“I am excited to branch out to a longer distance race,” he said. “The Gold Coast event seems like a great marathon that combines a competitive, fun, and scenic environment to make for a great first marathon experience. I hope that this is the first of many marathons to come.”
For some Bondies, this year’s Gold Coast Marathon marked their debut over 42.2 km, while other more seasoned runners added the run to an impressive list of long-distance events both in Australia and overseas.
The much-loved event is known as Australia’s fastest marathon with more than 60% of competitors taking home a personal best.
So, how did Nicholas do?
We’re happy to report that he smashed his goal, finishing with an impressive time of 02:42:56! Congratulations, Nicholas!
