Overview

Griffith Law School teaches law within its social context and offers a wide range of legal clinics, which will give you hands-on experience in a structured environment. The school was founded upon and remains committed to social justice and the law as an instrument of change.

When you study law at Griffith, you are studying among the world’s best. Griffith University ranks first in Australia for the area of Law in the ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2023.

Canadian Law Students’ Association
Hosted at the Gold Coast campus, the Canadian Law Students’ Association is a small but active group. Past events include Thanksgiving dinner and a night at a hockey game. As a Griffith Law student, you’ll receive support and advice from the Canadian Law Student Association and enjoy regular mentoring meetings with the Deputy Head of School for Learning and Teaching, Therese Wilson. Ms. Wilson makes a point of keeping in regular contact with the Canadian cohort and catching up regularly with those who are interested.

Griffith Legal Clinics
Griffith helped pioneer clinical legal education in Queensland, paving the way for legal clinics to be included in Law degrees. We have years of research and experience that has helped us successfully meet the needs of our industry partners and our students.

Moot Courts
Griffith Law School equips you to deal with contemporary issues with a perfect balance of legal theory and practice, right from the first year of study. The teaching facilities and moot courts provide law students with the opportunity to solve real legal problems in front of a judge and jury by engaging in a simulated court proceeding.

Griffith offers a range of flexible and innovative international field trips, study tours, and global internships that get you out of the classroom and into the field. Each year, law students compete for coveted spots on international mooting teams at annual competitions including the Phillip C Jessup Moot Court Competition and the Willem C Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, where Griffith was the last Australian law school standing in the 2017 Vienna competition, finishing in the top 16 out of 340 teams.

Program

The Bachelor of Laws Honours (LLB) at Griffith University offers a professional legal curriculum that focuses on core areas of legal practice and the legal skills that lawyers must have. You will have the opportunity to choose law electives based on your interests, including clinical courses that emphasize practical legal skills, insights and experience.

Practical Experience
Griffith Law School degrees are built on practical experience from first year, so you’ll be welcomed into the profession from the start and graduate with an in-depth knowledge of legal principles, plus the critical practical skills for a rewarding legal career. You’ll gain extensive hands-on experience through local, national and international moots, court visits, industry networking, and legal clinics, working on real cases and policy issues. The Griffith Legal Clinic Program offers one of the broadest ranges of clinical placement options for an Australian law school.

Through Griffith University’s wide range of practical legal clinics, you can experience the legal profession first-hand and sharpen your skills by working with real clients and cases. Law students will also attend organized networking events with Queensland’s legal community.

“Prepare to grow as a person”

[I like the] campus and its services, location of the campus. Everything is great! I would say in some cases, the instructors could be really hard markers. Class size is great! depending on class taken some course material is overwhelming. Prepare to grow as a person while studying, getting comfortable with the discomforts of life (social and personal aspects)
