For those with a passion for working with data and academic success in quantitative subjects such as completion of an undergraduate degree in accounting, maths, statistics, physics, engineering, finance, actuarial science, econometrics, this is the ideal post-graduate program to accelerate their careers.
“A demand survey by AT Kearney conservatively estimates that more than 1,600 jobs will be created in the field of business analytics over the next two years in Australia alone,” said MBS Dean, Professor Zeger Degraeve.
“Big data and advanced analytic systems have brought game-changing shifts to the way information is acquired, analysed, stored and used. Businesses have told us that they are keen to make use of the competitive advantages that complex data can offer.
“However, there is also a worldwide shortage of skills in this area. We have partnered with leading businesses to deliver a program that both addresses this gap and provides students with the opportunity to fast track their careers in this exciting new business frontier.”
Associate Professor Jenny George and Professor Ujwal Kayande have been instrumental in designing the new Master of Business Analytics program to meet the demands for better understanding and utilising data in various business applications.
The new program aims to produce graduates who will be business-savvy data analysts so it includes a practical business component comprising of a five-week project.
The Master of Business Analytics students will help companies such as ANZ Bank, AT Kearney, Brightstar, Carlton & United Breweries (CUB), Roy Morgan Research, SEEK, Suncorp, Telstra and Woolworths solve real business problems they might be facing.
With classes commencing in January 2015, the innovative new program will be delivered at Melbourne Business School as a full-time, one-year program with some modules run in collaboration with the University of Melbourne’s Computer Science and Information Systems faculty.
