JCU Townsville’s new student accommodation progressing well
Construction on JCU Townsville’s new student accommodation is progressing well, with completion expected by December 2021!
The building will be home to 403 students and managed by UniLodge, featuring a self-catered master chef kitchen, dining space, sky lounge, games area, cinema and much more. The seven-storey building will be located on Mount Stuart Street, adjacent to the Technology Innovation Complex.
JCU students starting programs at James Cook University Townsville campus will have a new accommodation option for 2022.
The university has just commenced the construction of a $54-million complex that is set to open for students in semester 1-2022. This 10,000 m2 building will house more than 400 students, featuring study bedrooms in group share accommodation, high-quality communal facilities, and a centralized, self-catered kitchen and dining area.
“The new student accommodation complex is a crucial element of the renewal of the Townsville campus and is the first construction project in TropiQ, Townsville’s Tropical Intelligence & Health Precinct,” said Deputy Vice Chancellor for Services and Resources, Tricia Brand.
Forty-six million of this project has come from the Federal Government’s Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility, while James Cook University contributed the remaining $8 million. It’s a major project in the tropical town of Townsville and will be a welcome home to students looking for contemporary and affordable on-campus living arrangements.
