Australia takes over the world’s most livable cities in 2021

Every year, The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) publishes a list of the world’s most livable cities, based on criteria such as culture and environment, education and infrastructure, healthcare, and stability. There are several cities around the world that consistently rank in the top 10 as some of the best places to live, work, and study.

Of course, 2021 has been a year for the books, but one thing stands out when looking at this list—Australia and New Zealand are deemed two of the most attractive places to live worldwide! Four Australian cities and two New Zealand cities make up this year’s top 10, with Auckland, New Zealand coming in at #1.

It’s no coincidence that this year’s list was influenced by the way in which countries handled the COVID-19 pandemic. Australia and New Zealand implemented strict nationwide lockdowns and international border closures last year to slow the spread of the virus. As a result, many cultural attractions and social gatherings remained open this year, including schools, theatres, restaurants, sporting events, and more. No wonder those who were surveyed in these locations had a handful of positive things to say!

However, Australia and New Zealand are not new to this list. Year after year, both have had cities that are ranked highly as great places to live.

Many things factor into deciding where to live and study. It’s important to think about your quality of life, as well as your educational institution! What do you like to do during your free time? Which city has the most to offer you?
