What Can I Do with a Kinesiology Degree?

20 March 2026

What can you do with a kinesiology degree?

You have a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, which means you have a good foundational understanding of human anatomy and health sciences. What can you do next with that knowledge?

To put those hands-on skills and knowledge to use, you should consider a professional degree in healthcare: physiotherapy (AKA physical therapy), occupational therapy, chiropractic, speech pathology, audiology, or even medicine!

Keep reading to find out how a kinesiology degree prepares you for each of these disciplines.

Physiotherapy

If you’ve taken at least two anatomy courses and possibly a physiology course throughout the course of your kinesiology degree, you’re likely eligible to apply to physiotherapy degrees in Australia.

Not only are these courses required to be eligible to apply, but graduate-entry physiotherapy programs assume that you have a strong foundation of anatomy knowledge, so they jump right into more advanced knowledge and skills practice at the start of the program. This gives you a strong basis of understanding for the clinical placements in which you’ll get to put theory into practice.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy degrees typically require previous courses in anatomy and physiology, although some look more broadly for students with any health-related undergraduate degree. A kinesiology degree often prepares you well to check these boxes, and for what you’ll learn throughout the course of your occupational therapy program.

While in your OT degree, you’ll connect your anatomy and physiology knowledge to occupational therapy theory and practice. You’ll also go beyond theory and gain hands-on experience by undertaking about 1,000 hours of fieldwork placement.

Chiropractic

Chiropractic degrees tend to be a bit less specific about prerequisites but usually want applicants to have a completed undergraduate degree in a “related discipline.” If prerequisites are listed, they are generally for human anatomy and human physiology.

Chiropractic programs seek to align theory and clinical knowledge with the technical skills required to be a successful chiropractor. You’ll put theory to practice while completing clinical placements alongside established chiropractors.

Speech Pathology

Most speech pathology degrees do not have specific prerequisites, but prior studies in related areas like psychology, health sciences, human services, etc. are considered beneficial. A kinesiology degree often includes courses in these related disciplines.

Audiology

Audiology degrees don’t typically have set prerequisites but prefer an undergraduate degree in a related discipline. A kinesiology degree provides helpful foundational understanding in physiology, neuroscience, psychology, anatomy, and other related disciplines.

Medicine

You might be surprised to find out that you could apply to medical school in Australia with a kinesiology degree. Most Australian medical programs do not require specific courses for admission and instead focus on your GPA and your MCAT score. If you’re willing to write the MCAT, your existing knowledge of the human body could propel you into a successful application to a medical school and a future career as a doctor!

If this option sounds appealing but the MCAT is making you reconsider, here’s everything you need to know about the MCAT.

Your kinesiology degree can lead you to an area of study and practice you might never have previously considered!
