How to Turn Your BSc into an MD
You have a BSc. Now you an MD.
What next?

The University of Queensland Dean of Medicine Stuart Carney visited The University of Toronto recently to give students the highlights of the school’s Doctor of Medicine program.
Prospective med students learned about what makes the UQ MD one of the top 100 med schools in the world (2025 QS Rankings: Medicine), including
- UQ MD entry requirements,
- admissions requirements,
- program structure,
- living in Australia,
- residency options, and
- pathway options after graduation (returning to Canada or staying in Australia).
Attendees also had the opportunity to ask Professor Carney and the OzTREKK team questions so they could really start to figure out if the UQ MD was the program for them!
About the University of Queensland Doctor of Medicine Program
From 2023, UQ is proud to offer a revised version of the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program, designed to build on the enthusiasm, maturity, and diversity of its students. It features a streamlined structure that takes an integrated approach to active learning. Across the program you’ll be able to tailor your learning by choosing enrichment opportunities.
As a UQ medical student, you’ll join a “learning community” during your first year. Each learning community is geographically based and brings together students, academics, clinical teachers, and professional staff. Learning communities provide a clinical home where students are engaged in learning from each other and are supported to flourish as they develop as a medical professional across the MD program. Developing research skills, Indigenous health, and rural, remote, and regional medical practice are embedded throughout and are all areas which students can choose to expand their knowledge and experience.
You’ll be able to build your own unique medical degree through a range of choices and exciting enrichment opportunities. During your final semester, you’ll also benefit from a dedicated transition to practice term, which will help you make the safe and effective transition to internship/residency and to your ongoing successful medical career.
