UWA holds orientation day for medicine and dentistry students

16 February 2018

International medicine and dentistry students were welcomed onto the UWA campus for a fun-filled orientation day recently. The aim of the day was to enable the students to get to know one another in a casual and friendly environment. Mixed in with this excited group of students were a few OzTREKKers—our first bunch to attend the University of Western Australia!

The morning session had the students participate in “skills to thrive at UWA” activities run by Mike Borman from Jojara & Associates. These icebreakers encouraged the students to connect, adapt and build relationships, while also enhancing their skills needed to communicate and work together as a team.

Sue Pougnault, Admissions Officer for the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences said, “It’s fantastic having Canadian students join us at UWA to complete their Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Dental Medicine degree and I’m very excited to follow their journey.”

The afternoon saw representatives from STUDYSmarter and Student Experience come to speak with the students about life at UWA, the wide range of support services on offer, how to find the right study/life balance, and tips to get more out of their study.

“The day was a great success and helped to build trust and support between the students and UWA staff and that we, the staff are here to support them throughout their time at UWA.

“We welcome both our international and domestic students to UWA and wish them every success with their studies,” Mrs Pougnault said.
