The dedication and hard work of Newcastle staff helps the university reach its full potential and build its performance.
In 2014, the Vice-Chancellor’s Award recognises the innovative and world-class performance of university staff in the following categories:

  • Teaching and learning awards that recognise the outstanding contributions of individuals and groups to the quality of student learning
  • Professional staff awards that recognise outstanding and exceptional performance by professional staff from across the university
  • Research and supervision awards that recognise excellence in outstanding early career researchers and the important role that supervisors play in supporting PhD and research masters students.

Professor Caroline McMillen said that University of Newcastle staff are the greatest asset. “On behalf of the university, I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to both the winners and the nominees of the 2014 Vice-Chancellor’s Awards. Your contributions are critical to building not only the world-class education, research and innovation outcomes for which the university is known but also to position UON for the challenges and opportunities of our NeW Futures.”
The University of Newcastle is known worldwide for its problem-based learning programs. Used mainly in the disciplines of architecture, building, health sciences, law, medicine and nursing, problem-based learning places students in small groups where they solve problems they are likely to face in their working lives. In other words, it gives a purpose to learning.
The University of Newcastle at Callaghan boasts one of the best campuses in Australia. Its 120 hectares (300 acres) of natural bushland—complete with Australian wildlife—at the city’s edge offers you peace and quiet—the perfect prerequisites for successful study!
