22 April 2015

It’s a great start for the Sydney Law School Vis Moot Team, winning the Brussels Pre-Moot Competition.
Consisting of Nicola Bevitt, Phoebe Winch, Sarah Ienna, and Will Hanna, the team defeated the University of Osnabrück (Germany) in the final.

It progressed in the competition after wins against the Jagiellonian University (Krakow, Poland) and the National University of Singapore in the general rounds before advancing to the final after moots against UNSW (in the octo-finals), the University of Liege (quarterfinals), and the University of Auckland (semifinal).
“The team’s victory here is a great reward for their hard work over the past six months, and much credit is also due to the team’s co-coaches, Domenic Cucinotta, Reuben Ray, and Louise Dargan, for their excellent guidance of the team,” said Professor Chester Brown, Sydney Law School‘s Professor of International Law and International Arbitration.
The team now moves to Vienna, with a short stop in Cologne for a practice moot against the University of Cologne, before the start of the Annual Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot or Vis Moot.
The final was held at the offices of the “Federation of Enterprises in Belgium,” and the earlier moots were hosted by Brussels law firms including Stibbe, Linklaters, and Strelia.
