Monash Business School graduate wins award
Marketing graduate Thomas Weston will experience firsthand the guidance of global marketer Tony Palmer as part of this year’s Monash Marketing Awards for Excellence.
Thomas has been awarded the 2015 Tony Palmer – Monash Marketing Award, and will receive a cash prize, as well as personal mentoring for 12 months by Mr Palmer.
Mr Palmer is the President of Global Brands and Innovation, Kimberly-Clark Corporation and a Monash University alumnus.
Thomas said he was grateful to have won the award, and would relish the opportunity to learn from Mr Palmer’s wealth of business knowledge.
“I believe that mentoring from such a successful marketer as Tony Palmer will only contribute to my passion and drive to grow in business further,” Thomas said.
Graduating from Monash Business School in 2014 with a double degree in commerce and economics, Thomas has founded and directed two small business enterprises: Sausage Dog Central, a niche online retail store catering to dachshund owners; and more recently Gen E Marketing Solutions, a full-service online marketing company.
“I hope my time with Mr Palmer will help develop Gen E Marketing Solutions, and give me a deeper understanding of business,” Thomas said.
The 2015 Tony Palmer – Monash Marketing Award is part of a host of awards under the Monash Marketing Awards for Excellence. These awards recognise and celebrate the discipline of marketing, and acknowledge those undergraduate and postgraduate students who, each year, achieve outstanding results in individual courses and units.
The award selection committee comprised Monash alumna Suzana Ristevski, Head of Strategy and Growth at GE Australia/NZ/PNG; Jodie Leonard, Managing Director at Challenger Consulting; and Erica Brady, Director of Teaching at the Department of Marketing, Monash Business School.
Head of the Department of Marketing Professor Harmen Oppewal said the committee was unanimous in its assessment of Thomas’ application.
“Academic excellence, combined with entrepreneurship, were clearly demonstrated in Thomas’ application,” Professor Oppewal said. “His extra-curricular activities, including mentoring, attendance at the Harvard World Model United Nations in 2014, and his appetite for business make him an ideal candidate for this exceptional opportunity.”
