Latest rankings cement University of Melbourne as Australia’s best

The University of Melbourne has been named Australia’s top university in the 2014 Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings, released March 6.

The university is ranked 43 in the world, cementing its position as Australia’s leading university.
University of Melbourne Vice-Chancellor Professor Glyn Davis said to be ranked in the top 50 universities in the world showed both global and national recognition of the university’s high standard of research and teaching.
“The sustained leadership over time, and across several university rankings systems, shows that the university is continuing to push frontiers in intellectual growth and research expertise,” he said.
“The ongoing dedication and excellence from research and teaching staff, to professional staff, as well as students, show that the whole university community has a share in this achievement.”
The 2014 reputation rankings are based on the world’s largest invitation-only survey of academic opinion, featuring 10,536 respondents from 133 countries.
The rankings come a week after Education at the University of Melbourne was ranked second in the world in the QS World University Rankings by Subject.
In the QS rankings, Law and Accounting and Finance at the university were ranked eighth in the world while psychology was ranked 10th and medicine, environmental science and linguistics all ranked 12th.
