La Trobe University Opens $82M Multidisciplinary Health Clinic
La Trobe University has officially unveiled its new $82-million La Trobe Health Clinic at the Bundoora campus. The facility aims to address Australia’s critical shortage of healthcare professionals while delivering affordable, student-led allied health services to Melbourne’s north.

Officially opened on June 11, 2026 by Federal Education Minister Jason Clare and Deputy Premier Ben Carroll, the clinic represents the largest multidisciplinary university clinic in Victoria. It stands as a centerpiece of La Trobe’s broader $170-million statewide investment in health innovation.
Bridging Education and Community Care
The state-of-the-art facility offers supervised, student-led services across various disciplines, including audiology, dietetics, physiotherapy, psychology, orthoptics, occupational therapy, speech pathology, and podiatry.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Theo Farrell emphasized that universities must step up to solve national workforce pressures by combining high-quality education with affordable public health services. He noted that embedding clinical training directly within an active health service gives students the practical confidence they need for the workforce, while simultaneously improving care accessibility for vulnerable community members.
Once fully operational, the clinic will train an additional 400 allied health professionals annually. This output directly supports La Trobe’s ambitious target to graduate 5,000 additional healthcare professionals by 2030.
A Masterplan for the Future
The clinic is a vital component of the “La Trobe University City” initiative—a long-term masterplan transforming the 235-hectare Bundoora campus into a multi-use hub featuring sports, research, commercial, and residential spaces.
This project is the first to be realized under the university’s $5-billion masterplan, developed and financed by infrastructure developer Plenary Group. Plenary Group CEO Paul Crowe expressed pride in the project, which was delivered on budget and two months ahead of schedule, marking the beginning of a long-term partnership to fulfill the University City vision.
The broader $170 million health expansion also includes operational nursing and midwifery simulation facilities across Bundoora, Bendigo, Wodonga, and Mildura, alongside a new dentistry and oral health clinical school in Bendigo.
