Understanding Compliance

Before your program begins, you will gain access to your my.UQ account, where you will find information about the required compliance documents, when they will be due, and how to submit them. Please follow the submission directions, as they vary slightly between program areas.

The entire compliance and verification process can take a few months (or longer if a new course of vaccinations is required), so it’s important to start as soon as you receive the information.

Important: The Q-Fever vaccine it is not readily available in Canada and in most cases, students will have to arrange for the screening and vaccination to be done in Australia.

Quick Tips

Here are our recommendations specific to UQ in addition to the resources linked above:

Police Check – If you have been a citizen or permanent resident of a country other than Australia after turning 16, you must also complete a Statutory Declaration prior to commencing placement stating that you have never, in Australia or another country, been convicted of murder or sexual assault, or convicted of, and sentenced to imprisonment for, any other form of assault. You must use this Statutory Declaration template (no other versions will be accepted).

First Aid – If required for your program, First Aid certificates obtained overseas (i.e., in Canada) are generally accepted* at UQ if they cover the following topics:

  • Apply the principles of first aid
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • Asthma and anaphylaxis management
  • Treatment of infection, shock, fractures, bleeding, and burns
  • Emergencies due to lack of oxygen, excess heat or cold, heart attack, stroke, asthma, diabetes, and epilepsy
  • Management of common medical emergencies
  • Treatment of poisoning including venomous bites and stings

It is your responsibility to provide evidence of the content covered in the course as requested.

Approved overseas providers include Red Cross and St John International.

Alternatively, you can complete these courses upon arriving in Australia: HLTAID003 (Provide first aid and Provide CPR) or HLTAID001 (Provide CPR) and HLTAID002 (Provide first aid).

*Nursing – International first aid certificates are not accepted. You can complete your first aid and CPR requirements upon arriving to Australia.
