A range of opportunities for Griffith University law students
There are a range of opportunities for Griffith University law students, and many students know the benefits of building a strong network of colleagues.
Griffith’s Juris Doctor program offers those opportunities.
International mooting trips
Griffith offers flexible and innovating international field trips, study tours, and global internships that will take out of the classroom and into the real world. Every year, students compete for prized spots on Griffith’s international mooting teams for annual competitions like the Philip C Jessup Moot Court Competition and the Willem C Vis International Arbitration Moot. These aren’t your run-of-the-mill competitions either. In a 2017 competition in Vienna, Austria, Griffith came in as the top 16 out of a whopping 340 teams!
Overseas exchanges
With over 200 partner institutions in 38 different countries, students have no shortage of options should they decide to do an overseas exchange. Not only do you get to see a new part of the world, but you have the chance to gain a different perspective in your legal studies. Challenge yourself, impress future employers, learn a new language, and build a lasting network of friends and colleagues beyond the borders of Australia.
Meet the profession
Griffith University hosts annual events at Brisbane and the Gold Coast that give students the opportunity to meet professionals from Queensland’s diverse legal community, hear from notable keynote speakers, and gain valuable career insights. Prestigious speakers in the past have included Queensland’s chief justice, a former prime minister, and Queensland’s governor.
Judge in residence
Griffith knows how important it is to develop and deliver career relevant courses and degrees, so they are sure to keep strong ties to the industry. Their one-week-long Judge in Residence program gives students the changes to interact directly with esteemed judges.
Student Law Associations
Students like to get involved! Griffith has three student associations run by law students for law students: the Canadian Law Student Association, the Griffith University Law Society (Brisbane), and the Griffith University Law Students’ Association (Gold Coast). These groups offer mentoring, support, and run a variety of events and competitions to help students develop their legal skills.
So, if you’re joining Griffith University’s law program, you have no excuse to not get involved!
