Program Structure and Eligibility
Melbourne JD students begin their NYU LLM journey in August, coinciding with the regular North American Fall Semester. To be eligible, you will need to
- consult with the Melbourne Law School Academic Programs Coordinator to obtain a Letter of Nomination;
- complete all core JD subjects and all but three elective subjects before departing;
- adhere to NYU’s admissions policies and standards;
- maintain a minimum 65% average, with a 75% average considered competitive.
Early course planning is crucial, ideally beginning in your first year of the JD program.
Application Process and Course Requirements
The application process involves obtaining a nomination letter from Melbourne Law School before applying directly to NYU. Successful applicants are required to complete an “Introduction to US Law” course and meet the core requirements of their chosen LLM specialization. Upon completion, you’ll be awarded the NYU LLM.
About the Melbourne Juris Doctor
The Melbourne JD is designed for students with an undergraduate degree in a discipline other than law. Melbourne Law School aims to produce intellectually engaged graduates who are well equipped to use their legal training in a variety of professional settings, including legal practice and in their contribution to the community.
The maximum class size is 60 and, in many subjects, it is smaller, to enhance the opportunities for interaction between you and your teachers and among your fellow students.
