Derek graduated with a Bachelor of Laws in 1991 and is a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland and the High Court of Australia.  He has served on the Alumni Advisory Board since its inception in 2014.
Derek said he was delighted to be appointed the new Chair of the Advisory Board and thanked outgoing Chair, Peta Fielding, for her valuable contribution.
“We were very fortunate to have Peta lead the inaugural Alumni Advisory Board and establish its existing framework, which encourages all alumni to actively participate in the various activities held worldwide,” Derek said.
“The role of the Advisory Board is critical, namely to oversee the development and management of important relationships – not just between the university and its alumni, but also the essential relationships that our alumni have with each other.
“Looking forward, the major areas of focus for the Advisory Board will be expanding upon our existing networks, and furthering the development of the alumni clubs, groups and chapters which have been established across the globe.”
Joining Derek on the Alumni Advisory Board for 2016/17 are

  • Ed Brockhoff, Class of 2002, Elected Alumni Member
  • Todd Hiscock, Class of 1991, Elected Alumni Member
  • George Raptis, Class of 2003, Elected Alumni Member
  • David Baxby, Class of 1992, Appointed Alumni Member
  • Lisa MacCallum, Class of 1991, Appointed Alumni Member
  • Jacqui Ward, Class of 2009, Appointed Alumni Member

“Each of the elected and appointed members are well regarded alumni, and all have achieved remarkable success,” Derek said.
“For example, Lisa MacCallum has run the Nike Foundation; Ed Brockhoff who is a previous recipient of the Bond Alumni Scholarship works for the International Center for Transitional Justice in New York; and David Baxby who was the inaugural recipient of the Robert Stable Alumni Medal and a former co-CEO of Virgin Group, is now CEO of a global advisory firm based in Singapore.
“We are very fortunate to have this calibre of alumni representing our interests on the Bond Alumni Advisory Board.”
