Introduced in 2014, the Juris Doctor (JD) program at the University of Newcastle Law School has become an instant success.

What’s cooler than studying law at an Australian Law School? How about practicing your program on the beach! Law on the Beach brings University of Newcastle Law School students and lawyers to the community at Newcastle Beach each Wednesday for five weeks over the Australian summer. Hundreds of Newcastle residents benefit each year from the clinic’s free legal advice. At the same time, fourth-year law students gain practical experience toward their degree!

University of Newcastle Law School Juris Doctor Program

The University of Newcastle Law School is the first in Australia to offer an integrated learning experience. The new JD degree integrates experiential learning and skills training with the conventional legal curriculum. The Juris Doctor and the embedded Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice at the Law School is designed to equip students with the knowledge, clinical experience and qualification for admission into legal practice in Australia.
Students will study the Juris Doctor concurrently with the Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice, allowing students to develop both high level academic and legal skills, while also providing practical and real-world experience.

Application deadline: There is no official application deadline. It is recommended that students apply at least three months prior to the program’s start date.

Entry Requirements for the University of Newcastle JD Program

Entry to the program is available to students that have successfully completed a 3-year bachelor degree in any discipline other than law, from a recognized institution; or other post-secondary qualification from a recognized institution assessed by the Faculty Pro Vice-Chancellor to be equivalent. Applicants must also meet the English Language requirements of the University of Newcastle.
