Overview

The Department of Audiology & Speech Pathology at the University of Melbourne is a research and teaching department in Parkville. The department delivers graduate audiology and speech pathology education and research studies into the area of human hearing loss and communication.

Aural rehabilitation involves helping people with impaired hearing to cope with their hearing difficulties. The Master of Clinical Audiology at the University of Melbourne provides the basic scientific background for audiology, an introduction to clinical work, comprehensive training in all aspects of clinical audiology along with an introduction to related research methods.

The first year of the course provides basic scientific background for audiology and an introduction to clinical work. The second year provides comprehensive training in all aspects of clinical audiology along with an introduction to research methods in this field.

Clinical Placements
The program consists of formal lectures, seminars, practical work, and student presentations along with a substantial clinical component. You’ll be scheduled for supervised clinical work at Melbourne’s clinical school and at various hearing care facilities across Victoria.

Clinician-client interaction training will be part of your studies from day one. This early and continual exposure to real-life clinical conditions will ready you to have ongoing impact on people’s lives. As a Melbourne audiology student, you’re offered invaluable on-the-job training at The University of Melbourne’s Onsite Clinic.

Through The University of Melbourne and its affiliated institutions, you’ll also have access to telehealth consultations with nurses in remote overseas locations, such as Cambodia, alongside international placement opportunities in Asia and Africa.

Admission Requirements

Completed bachelor’s degree
You must have a completed undergraduate degree in a directly related discipline such as science, health sciences, biomedicine, linguistics, phonetics, psychology, or music. While Melbourne does not list a minimum GPA, OzTREKK will only submit applications with 2.5+ / 4.0.
