University of Newcastle Law School offering online Juris Doctor program
Full-time online learning for the University of Newcastle law school? Yes, please!
In recognition of this “new normal” and current border closures, the University of Newcastle has made some adjustments to ensure that law students can fully access the classes and resources they require online! This will allow students to stay enrolled in the program on a full-time basis until they can move to Australia to continue their learning in-person.
University of Newcastle Law School offering online Juris Doctor program
The University of Newcastle Law School is committed to ensuring that international students who commence the Juris Doctor/Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice (JD/GDLP) program in 2021 will be able to progress their studies online on a full-time basis until it is possible to travel to Australia. The Law School also recognizes that, once travel to Australia becomes possible, students will need some additional time to arrange to move.
In order to facilitate distance learning, all compulsory courses in the first year of the JD/GDLP program will have at least one online class, which will be scheduled to suit as many relevant time zones as possible.
Although the university will aim to ensure all distance students can access the “live” online class, they will also record each weekly class so that distance students can access it at the most suitable time for them. In addition, distance students will have access to weekly check-in sessions with their lecturers following their online classes. These check-in sessions will be arranged by lecturers in consultation with students, given the diversity of time zones from which distance students will be joining the program. The check-ins may be conducted in small groups or one-to-one, as appropriate.
Juris Doctor students usually only take compulsory courses in the first year of their program, they do not usually take elective courses in that first year. However if international students would like to take on additional study load during their first year, there will be a few elective courses taught in online mode in 2021.
While the university would love to be able to welcome international students to Newcastle, we do not yet know when this will be possible. In the meantime, Newcastle Law School will work with all their distance students to ensure your access to online education for as long as necessary.
