JCU Pharmacy School boasts a modern integrated curriculum where students are exposed to various modes of teaching across the subject areas:  lectures, tutorials, workshops, practicals undertaken in modern teaching and laboratory facilities. Simulated patients are used in workshops and students are encouraged to develop as health practitioners by being trained in skills involving not only showing their knowledge in written examinations but orally in counselling and oral presentations and examinations.

JCU Pharmacy School construction

Following much planning, JCU Pharmacy moved into a new purpose built facility in February 2009. The building houses two state-of-the-art facilities (each capable of holding 120 students) for teaching into the Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Pharmacy Practice Laboratory
A pharmacy practice laboratory is located within the Pharmacy & Medical Research building. This area is designed to hold 120 students during one session or can be divided to hold two groups of 60 students and also has video conferencing abilities. The unit consists of 33 computers, each connected to a thermal label printer. Each computer has full internet access and access to all appropriate pharmacy reference material. This facility is used extensively for workshops, clinical dispensing and tutorials.
Pharmaceutical Sciences Laboratory
A pharmaceutical sciences laboratory is located within the Pharmacy & Medical Research building. The facility has been designed as a multipurpose laboratory and compounding, pharmaceutical technology and aseptic dispensing are undertaken in this area, which is designed to hold 120 students during one session or can be divided to hold two groups of 60 students. Each bench will hold a maximum of 8 students. The laboratory is equipped with 30 computers, each connected to a thermal label printer. Each computer contains dispensing programs, internet access and access to pharmaceutical reference material.
Sterile Dispensing Facility
An aseptic suite is also available where the teaching of and research into sterile compounding and cytotoxic manufacturing may be undertaken.
