Understanding Prerequisites

Some courses at the University of Melbourne have prerequisite subjects that must be completed in order to be eligible to apply. The Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) requires applicants to have completed prerequisite subjects in anatomy, biochemistry and physiology equivalent to Melbourne’s second-year level courses in these disciplines. For all three courses, the prerequisites must have been completed no more than 10 years prior to commencing.
The University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences is responsible for assessing prospective students’ courses to see if they meet application eligibility. If your subjects (human anatomy, human physiology and biochemistry) have not been previously assessed, OzTREKK strongly recommends having your subjects assessed well in advance of applying. The assessment process may be lengthy, so try to have your subjects assessed as soon as possible before applying. To see if your courses meet the prerequisites, please go to the University of Melbourne’s prerequisites page. You may check the courses you have taken to date by clicking on the “International” link under the heading “Have you already assessed my subjects?”
Prospective applicants for the Doctor of Dental Surgery program must submit documentation through the University of Melbourne’s prerequisite subject assessment webform for assessment by early May of the year in which they wish to apply in order to be considered for admission for the following year. Applicants who submit complete documentation by this deadline will be advised of their prerequisite subject assessment outcome before the closing date for applications. Note: Submissions received after this date will be processed but applicants will not receive advice about the outcome of the request until after the closing date for applications. If the student’s courses meet the prerequisites, course outlines do not need to be submitted with his/her application. If a prospective student’s human anatomy, human physiology and biochemistry courses are not listed and he/she did not submit a prerequisite assessment form, course outlines must be submitted with the application.
