The GAMSAT is considered a reasoning- rather than knowledge-based test. GAMSAT evaluates the nature and extent of abilities and skills gained through prior experience and learning, including the mastery and use of concepts in basic science as well as the acquisition of more general skills in problem solving, critical thinking and writing.
This test is available to students who have already completed a bachelor degree, or who will be enrolled in their second-last or final year of study for a bachelor degree, at the time of sitting the test.
A full day will be needed to sit GAMSAT. This is made up of 5.5 hours of testing time and one hour of recess time. In addition, pre-testing procedures will take some time to complete. You should anticipate being at the test centre for at least 8 hours.
Why should you write the GAMSAT?
Students often report that the GAMSAT is a broader, more reasoning-based exam compared to the MCAT. While the MCAT is very detailed and knowledge-based, the GAMSAT questions require a great deal of consideration, involving interpretation of the material, opinions, and application of this interpretation to apply the information to a hypothetical situation. GAMSAT evaluates the nature and extent of abilities and skills gained through prior experience and learning, including the mastery and use of concepts in basic science as well as the acquisition of more general skills in problem solving, critical thinking and writing. If you’ve studied for the MCAT, you should be more than able to cover the GAMSAT. Just be sure to write your answers legibly and as concisely as possible!
Where can you write the GAMSAT?
Canadians can write this only in Washington, DC, in North America, as this is the only testing centre on the continent. Other test locations include Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and the UK. A precise reporting address for the centre to which you have been assigned will be stated on the Admission Ticket which will be available through your online account approximately two weeks before the test day.
When can you write the GAMSAT?
GAMSAT 2016 will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016.  An overseas test levy of AUD$185 applies for these centres, in addition to the registration fee.
GAMSAT 2016 registrations will open in early November 2015.
Registrations will close at 5 p.m. AEDT February 1, 2016. Late registrations will close at 5 p.m. AEDT February 11, 2016. No applications for registration will be accepted after this date under any circumstances.
