Australian border opens for student visa holders
After almost two years of closures, the Australian border is open for student visa holders.
As of December 1, 2021, fully vaccinated student visa holders can travel to Australia without needing to apply for a travel exemption!
This is the exciting news we’ve been waiting for! We know you probably have questions though, so let’s get to them.
Is this too good to be true?
Short answer—no! There are hundreds of Canadian and American students finally applying for Australian student visas (if they hadn’t already), searching for accommodation, packing their things, and preparing to board planes to Australia.
All of that is happening right now!
Are there some conditions for travel?
In our new world, everything has conditions, including travel to Australia. On the bright side, we’ve compiled a handy list of conditions for your reference!
Fully Vaccinated + Student Visa
Beginning December 1, 2021, fully vaccinated and subclass 500 student visa holders may enter Australia without a travel exemption.
Proof of Vaccination
You’ll need to provide proof of vaccination to enter. Mixed doses are approved!
You must have a negative PCR no more than 3 days before you fly. Be aware of timing if you have substantial layovers en route to Australia.
Some Australian states still require a 2-week hotel quarantine, including interstate travel (e.g., flying into New South Wales and travelling to Queensland). You can find a full list of state level details on the Australia States website.
This Could All Change
If COVID has taught us anything, it’s that we can’t predict the future. We can’t promise that quarantine rules and/or exemption rules won’t change in the weeks or months ahead. As always though, we will share the latest information as we receive it!
We’ll also continue to post updates on our OzTREKK News as we receive them, so check back often.
