Overview
The Faculty of Health Sciences at Curtin University offers a range of facilities that allow for real-world learning in safe environments, under the supervision of experienced staff. Some of these facilities simulate the experience of a healthcare setting to prepare you for practice, while others are functional clinics where you can directly help members of the public in Perth and regional Western Australia. The university also offers specialized research facilities to support funded research projects across the university and beyond.
Within the Faculty of Health Sciences, the School of Allied Health is a leading provider in Western Australia of professionally recognized undergraduate and postgraduate courses in exercise and sport science, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech pathology, and social work.
Program
This Master of Occupational Therapy program offers you a fast-track option to becoming an occupational therapist.
In this course you will develop knowledge of four broad areas:
1. Medical, psychiatric, orthopedic, and neurological conditions that affect the health and well-being of individuals.
2. The theory and practice of occupational therapy including the study of occupation and analysis of the physical, psychological, and social requirements of a variety of skills and activities.
3. Human development covering normal growth and development within the lifecycle along with problems such as learning disabilities and the effects of ageing.
4. Occupational health and management, including prevention, education, and rehabilitation programs for a variety of workplaces.

Clinical Placements
You’re required to undertake a minimum of 1000 hours supervised clinical practice in a variety of institutions and community settings, including rural and remote areas of Western Australia before you graduate. These placements occur throughout the length of the course and extensively in the final year. One fieldwork block may continue beyond the end of your final semester.
This program commences with an intensively taught summer study period one unit starting in early January. Students must successfully complete this unit before proceeding to Semester 1 units.
Admission Requirements
Completed bachelor’s degree
You must have a completed undergraduate degree, preferably in a health-related discipline from a recognized university with a CWA of 2.0/4.0 and have extensive pre-existing knowledge in human biology or physiology.
