Sydney Law School students will participate in LawWithoutWalls

Two outstanding students from Sydney Law School have been selected to take part in the exclusive LawWithoutWalls (LWOW) program in 2015.
The program aims to accelerate innovation by tackling issues facing the legal profession and legal education today.

LWOW is a collaborative program initiated by Miami Law School connecting students, professionals, entrepreneurs and academics from over 25 elite law and business schools around the world including Harvard, Stanford, Peking and Tel Aviv University.
It remains the only legal education incubator in the world.
The 2015 program was launched in January at University College Dublin, Ireland.
Students will meet again in Miami, Florida between April 16-18 for the ConPosium.
Sydney Law School Associate Professor Rita Shackel is part of the program as Lead Faculty representative and LWOW Academic Mentor.
The two University of Sydney students selected are Erika Ly and Jake Pfeffer.
Erika is a combined Arts/Law student with a concentration in Government and International Relations. She recently completed an internship at a tech business and is fascinated by innovations in the legal services industry.
Erika hopes to find her career at the nexus between technology and the law.
Jake is a Juris Doctor student, after his studies in finance, he has had a varied career and most recently found himself working in a tech start-up in Western Canada.
Jake would like to pursue a career in commercial law with exposure to multi-jurisdictional transactions.
Both Erika and Jake are highly motivated and driven students.
Students and mentors work to create business-based solutions while cultivating relationships at an interdisciplinary level.
The program hones in on problem solving, project management and social networking skills that can be applied to everyday practice.
At the same time, students develop greater technological and cultural awareness and a spirit of entrepreneurialism.
The end goal is to provide innovations in the law and for students to develop the skills and capacities to compete in the global marketplace and as innovators and leaders in the law and business world.

Sydney Law School Juris Doctor

The Sydney JD comprises the core legal subjects required throughout the world for professional accreditation coupled with the study of a wide range of elective subjects which allows advanced learning in both specialized fields and law in general. Teaching and learning methodology includes a wide range of formats to allow individual choice, a deep understanding of the law, independent research and the development of the skills and ethics inherent in modern professional practice.

To be eligible to apply to the Sydney Law School JD, you must have the following:

  • Completed an undergraduate degree;
  • Achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average (cGPA) of at least 3.0/4.0
