- Dispute Resolution
- Canadian Law and Practice
- Legal Practice
To be eligible for a Law Specialisation, students must complete a minimum of four (4) of their law electives (40 credit points) within one of the above areas. Eligible students will receive a Specialisation Certificate at the completion of their program.
Law Elective Subjects
Students must select 7 law electives. A wide range of postgraduate law electives is offered by the Faculty of Law at Bond University. Students can use their elective units to specialize in an area of law such as Animal Law or Dispute Resolution, or they can use their electives to complete the 4 NCA-approved Canadian Law courses that are currently taught at Bond University. These courses include Canadian Administrative Law, Canadian Constitutional Law, Canadian Criminal Law & Procedure, and Foundations of Canadian Law.
OzTREKK Note: The National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) accredited Bond University as the only university outside Canada with the ability to offer four Canadian core subjects—Canadian Administrative Law, Canadian Constitutional Law, Canadian Criminal Law and Foundations of Canadian Law—and provide credit to students who completed these subjects at Bond, subject to sufficient academic performance (as detailed in NCA Assessment Policy 1.2.2.e).
If students completed any of the four approved law subjects at Bond they would not be required to complete the NCA examinations in Canada upon their return. After a formal assessment process by the NCA, these students would be granted a Certificate of Qualification without NCA examination.
The NCA formally notified Bond University during the week of August 11 – 15, 2014 that it will no longer be waiving the requirement for Bond graduates to sit the four exams that other graduates from non-Canadian law schools must sit. This decision by the NCA was not the result of any concern about the quality of Bond’s subjects or its graduates, but the result of numerous requests from law schools in the US and elsewhere for the same arrangement to be extended to them. The NCA could not justify maintaining Bond University’s monopoly, and does not have the resources to manage applications from other law schools for a similar arrangement, so it has decided to treat all law schools equally and discontinue the arrangement with Bond University.
If you have any questions about the NCA exams and the change noted above, please contact OzTREKK.

Student Advice
“The best experience Bond has to offer is the internship opportunities through the Career Development Centre. They will find you a max of two and I recommend doing them early on. Partially because they are great experience and networking opportunities and secondly because clinics are not available until later in the degree program.
“I also recommend deciding your class path in the first and second semester. Some electives are only offered once a year like ‘international environmental law.’ In order for me to take that class and make it work, I needed to shift some of my core classes around to take it.
“Look into the elective ‘Independent Study at Law.’ This elective allows you to write a paper of your choosing with a professor in that field. It is a one-on-one elective that I have found taught me more than most classes and really allows you to tailor a topic to the student’s specific needs. For example, I am writing a paper on entertainment law and music contracts with a renowned entertainment lawyer. He has taught me more about this field through personal experience and this paper then any book or class could have. This subject is not offered at Bond as it is a niche market, but will provide me with practical knowledge when I get into the real world in this field.”
Bond JD student Eric Y, graduated April 2020. Currently completing PLT at Bond.
