The Bachelor of Laws (Honours) is your path to become a lawyer or legal professional.

You’ll build a foundation in how the law works—and how and why laws change over time. Research past decisions to understand precedent and learn to analyze and interpret laws, regulations and court rulings.

Practical Placements
Throughout your degree, you can apply to undertake work placements, either through internships or through Clinical Legal Education courses. Each placement or internship is in conjunction with a law elective.

Clinical Legal Education
Clinical Legal Education is a three-point elective subject available to students in their final year of study in their Bachelor of Laws program. This practical subject gives law students the chance to work in a legal office one day per week and participate in the day-to-day provision of legal services to people in need.

Specialized Graduate Diploma of Canadian Law

In the final semester of the LLB, you’ll finish your legal education in Canada at the Université de Montréal. All courses in the Specialized Graduate Diploma of Canadian Law are in English and specifically designed to meet the requirements set out by the National Committee on Accreditation of the Federation of Law Societies of Canada.

This diploma provides a solid foundation in legal theory as well as Canadian substantive and procedural law. This includes a working knowledge of the Civil Law system of Quebec, which is an advantage for anyone entering the Canadian legal profession.

This program also counts as full credit for a semester of study towards the Adelaide LLB. As such, an Adelaide LLB graduate who completes the Montreal Specialized Graduate Diploma in Canadian Law will, in 3 years, complete both the LLB and the NCA accreditation requirements.

First semester = September – December (last semester of the LLB)
University of Adelaide LLB students take part in a study abroad program at the Université de Montréal and concurrently start their graduate studies. All credits earned at UdeM are recognized by Adelaide University and go toward the completion of the LLB degree.

Second semester = January – April
Students complete the graduate program leading to the Specialized Graduate Diploma of Canadian Law.

Third semester = May – August
Optional semester to earn an LLM degree in Comparative Common Law.

Admission Requirements

Completed high school diploma
You must have a completed high school diploma with a minimum average of 80%+ based on top 5 Grade 12 subjects.

AB – 86%
BC – 80%
ON – 80%

With university studies
Successful completion of at least 6 months full-time study (or equivalent part-time) in a higher education award program in an undergraduate diploma with a minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0. average.
