Business and Sports Management: A Career Journey

Join OzTREKK as we host Tyson Lazaruk, a 2020 graduate of the Masters in Business (Sport Management) program at Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia. Tyson will share his career journey, spanning from Canada to Australia and back home again.

After two undergraduate degrees and 10+ years of full-time work, Tyson, his wife, and their two children were in search of an international adventure.  After much research, planning and eventually packing up their Canadian life, the family travelled to Melbourne, Australia in early 2019.  While studying at Deakin, Tyson led a team-based work-experience project that completed an organization review of the Camberwell Field Hockey Club, volunteered with the 2019 Presidents Cup, received the Tennis Australia Top Case Study Award and at the completion of his program was recognized as the top graduating student. Outside of the university, the family travelled throughout south and east Australia, moved homes far too many times, and had a third child born during the height of the pandemic in Melbourne. Upon returning to Canada in April of 2021, Tyson accepted a teaching role with the University of Alberta.
